Drew Carey, Ryan Stiles, Colin Mochrie, Brad Sherwood, Jeff Davis, Jonathan Mangum, Heather Anne Campbell and Laura Hall are all performing in Vegas tonight.
And Mom won't take me to Vegas.
IT'S LIKE THE WHOLE GANG PLUS AWESOME PEOPLE LIKE JONATHAN MANGUM AND HEATHER ANNE CAMPBELL. TO SEE THIS WOULD BE A FREAKIN' DREAM COME TRUE.
WHY CAN'T I JUST LIVE IN LIKE A VAN FOLLOWING THEM EVERYWHERE.
And you know what the worst part is?
RYAN AND COLIN TOGETHER AGAIN!!!!!! ARGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I HAVE TO MISS ALL THIS AWESOMENESS JUST BECAUSE MOM WON'T TAKE ME TO VEGAS. *sobs* WHYYYYYYYYYYYY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
First I miss Colin Mochrie live in Calgary. And I thought that was a big deal.
BUT RYAN AND COLIN AND DREW AND BRAD AND JEFF DAVIS AND JONATHAN MANGUM AND HEATHER ANNE CAMPBELL AND THE ONE AND ONLY LAURA HALL ALL DOING A SHOW TOGETHER?!?!?!!? THAT'S A BIG FREAKIN' DEAL.
*goes in a corner and cries*
WHY WON'T MY MOM LET ME GO TO VEGAS?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!
IT'S THE LAST DAY!!! MY LAST ACTUAL REGULATED RANT!!!! SAVOUR IT!!!!
Day 30: A Moment That You'll Never Forget
Honestly, this is really hard. I say that about every single one, but it really is difficult, for a few reasons.
First off, how many absolutely unforgettable moments are there on Whose Line? Tapioca, Arctic Tern, Animal Porn, Master of Segues, and that's just from Greatest Hits! Then you go into other games and you get Colin groping everyone, Ryan licking Colin's head, Wayne singing a Strip-o-Gram song to a retired lunch lady, "Come!", Ryan and Colin's first kiss, Nice Pants, Wayne as a drill sergeant, Ryan smashing his head into a neon light whilst doing a Carol Channing impression, Captain Hair, A Big Stick with a Big Nose, Drew tripping on the stairs, Drew's Jerry Lewis impression, the ever famous Ryanless Hoedown, the Going Bald Hoedown, the Harley of Seville, Colin's penis pointer, the Tarzan Sound Effects with the old ladies, this list could go on and on and on, you know it could!
The problem with this question is that it says one moment. And I can't guarantee I'll remember a single moment from this show when I'm old and one would suppose mature (although if I do turn out to be a director/writer, I sort of doubt that) with a family I hope, and, you know, a life. But there is one thing I will always remember about this show.
It made me laugh.
Not just once, not twice, but almost everytime I watched it/listened to it/looked at it (obsessiveness lets me do all those things).
That's the most important thing, and that's the point I really wanna get across. Because if my life has anything like a philosophy, it would be to do what one loves, do what makes one happy, love, forgive, laugh often. Simple as that. It's a nice way to live.
And Whose Line let me laugh often, which, though it is mentioned last, is actually very key in my strategic plan (or, random sentence I just realized about myself. What's the difference?)
But, well, one moment...... if I had to pick just one moment that will stick with me for as long into the future as I can sanely foresee.........
Hmm................
I'll go with Animal Porn. It's the only thing that keeps persistently coming, and I'll go with my gut since logic really has no say in this anymore.
I just adore Colin's apologetic little smile and laugh.
And the way Ryan took a minute to compute what Colin had just said.
And the way Ryan covers his face with his hands because he's ashamed for Colin, but in the most laughing, amusing way possible, and he's got a high little giggle because he's almost in shock.
It's kind of the best thing ever.
God. I love this show so much. I hope I never forget about it. I hope when I'm middle-aged and have children, I'll remember to show them the show too, and grant them the gift of laughter. My mother has laughed so hard she cried at this show. Literally, tears rolling down her face.
I hope Whose Line never fades. It's a piece of utter brilliance, and thank god it lasted a whole eight seasons, plus the ten season British version.
I just love it so much.
*happy sigh*
Peace out Whosebuddies,
MeganH
P.S I KNOW YOU WERE CURIOUS DON'T DENY IT. So here it is. The infamous Animal Porn incident.
My problem is that I always get into things way too late.
I mean, sometimes it's okay, things like Shakespeare and the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy will always be timeless. And the Simpsons was actually fairly up to date..... even if, of course, I didn't particularly like the ones that were up to date.......
But if we keep going on this timeline of obsession, we come to Firefly. That was on in 2001. I found out about it in 2011. I was literally a decade late. Meaning, though the fandom lives on, I missed all the panels I probably could have gone to, and talks and blah blah blah. I missed out.
And then we come to Whose Line, which is of course the most recent one, having only become an obession last March.
Now, from my knowledge of Whose Line and the people in it, Whose Line ended in 2005, meaning I missed ever seeing it on TV..... the only reruns are played at midnight on channels I don't even get. And watching it on the computer does lose it's magic, because I can get ANYTHING on the Internet. Which is, of course, the point, but no it's not. The point is that watching it on television is different, and I missed out.
Drawing from my extensive knowledge of these people, Colin and Ryan, whom I recently refferred to in an English project as a "comic match made in heaven", seldom ever see each other anymore. Colin lives in Toronto, doing gigs mainly in Canada except for when he tours with Brad Sherwood for the ever anticipated Colin and Brad Show.
Ryan, on the other hand, lives in America, and does a live show, aptly called Whose Live Anyway (which is, by the way, coming to Coquitlam in February!!!! I WAS FREAKING OUT SO MUCH I PULLED A MUSCLE I CAN'T MISS WHOSE LIVE IF I DO I WILL ACTUALLY KILL SOMEBODY I MUST SEE IT) with Chip Esten, Jeff Davis and Greg Proops, and occasionally does a thing called Stiles and Proops: Unplanned, with, yep, you guessed it, Greg Proops.
I'm not saying it's like "east is east and west is west and never the twain shall meet" because Colin and Ryan do see each other on occasion...... just very rarely.
Well, you know what I found out?
In February, 2011, in Vancouver, for a benefit gig, the twain met.
They called it "A Mochrie of Stiles".
And I missed it.
They did A Mochrie of Stiles in like, two places. EVER.
DO YOU KNOW HOW LIKELY IT IS THAT THAT WILL EVER HAPPEN AGAIN IN VANCOUVER?!?!?! VERY VERY UNLIKELY.
AND I MISSED IT.
GAH. WHY DOES LIFE HATE ME.
*goes in a corner and cries*
I MISSED IT WHY DID I MISS IT WHY CAN'T I GET INTO THINGS BEFORE THINGS LIKE THAT HAPPENED GOOD GOD THAT MUST HAVE BEEN AN ABSOLUTE GEM TO GO TO, CAN YOU IMAGINE SEEING COLIN AND RYAN ONSTAGE TOGETHER AFTER ALL THIS TIME OH MY GOD WHY DO I HAVE TO MISS THINGS LIKE THAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
*takes deep breath*
I. MISSED. A Mochrie of Stiles. When it was in Vancouver. As recently as 2011.
Day 28: A General Favourite/Worst Moment
Um, that's a big category. Holy crap. The first thing to pop into my head is the Hollywood Director where it's supposed to be set in Mexico, with Ryan as Zorro and everything (least I think it was Mexico) and they're all doing AWFUL accents. It starts with Kathy doing this incredibly bad slip up in her accent, and then when Colin comes on as the director he's got this mixure of german and russian and, like, asian accent......... god, that just never fails to make me laugh. Gotta be my favourite playing of Hollywood director, and that's a great game.
Actually, whenever Colin has to do an accent. Right there, that is my favourite moment out of Whose Line. Everytime Colin has to do an accent. Be it british, french, german, scottish, he will do terribly bad. And it will be great. And I will laugh.
*sigh*........ ah...... yeah.
Peace out, Whosebuddies,
MeganH
P.S "Yore from Cahnahdah, ahren't you?" "Ches, and my modders from Sveeden." xD
Was watching an interview with Dan Patterson and Mark Leveson (the creators of Whose Line), and they said this, which is kind of a great mixture of fascinating and adorable. Mark Leveson: I think we should mention Ryan... cause Ryan Stiles was..... and always was..... fantastic on the show. Dan Patterson: He was fantastic. Mark Leveson: He was just - Dan Patterson: But what we hadn't realized in the early days was that we didn't realize how important it was for people to be with people they improvised with a lot. And Ryan came over and did the show and he was really good. But it was only when we started putting him with Colin that we got this real magic. Because they have a telepathy, they worked - it was like Sweeney and Steve. They were good individually, but when they came together, they were very good, and the same with Ryan and Colin is that they were so used to working with each other and doing stuff, that.... we realized, suddenly, that you had to have them together throughout the - and Colin did two or three shows on his own, and..... wasn't that good. Mark Leveson: When we first - when we, when we saw him originally, Colin was one of the funniest people I think we'd seen onstage. We saw him in Toronto, didn't we? Dan Patterson: Yeah. Mark Leveson: And he was - he really was hilarious, and he could do scenes like nobody else. And when we brought him over to Britan - and Colin's very shy - and.... he found it very difficult at first, didn't he? Dan Patterson: Yeah. Mark Leveson: And he.... I think other people were probably saying "Why are you keeping him on?" But we were just waiting for the magic to happen. Dan Patterson: And it happened really..... but Colin always says that he came over, and I said, um, you know..... something like "Make sure your flight isn't 'til Monday" or something like this..... you know, in the idea that he may get another show, and he did a show and then didn't hear anything, so he just flew off again, and he's always said "Oh, I guess I didn't really do that well."
They later go on to say:
Dan Patterson: You know, people said we were quite ruthless, that people would come on and we just wouldn't use them again, but.... we - it was that fear, it was just that there was this thing of - you can't have somebody and - and, uh...... they're just okay for a long time and never do - the one exception was Colin, because he took a time to warm up, but we knew that he was just brilliant, and we thought that if we can get his -
And that's when they stopped talking about Colin and I lost interest.
I just find this so cool that A) They were able to recognize how amazing Colin and Ryan were together, and B) They gave Colin a few chances because he had impressed them so much at the audition. Isn't that cool? I think that's cool.
By the way...... I kind of have to do this.
Young Colin and and young Ryan. They're so cute.
P.S Colin actually documented Dan's story about the monday plane in his own words. I'll just put that here.
"My first performance on “Whose Line”…how can I put this? Oh, yes – it sucked. I met the other improvisers two hours before we shot the show. I totally psyched myself out. Before the show, producer Dan Patterson said “Colin, if the show goes well, you can do the Sunday show tomorrow.” After the debacle, he said, “So you leave on Monday, do you?”"
And I find that great because I'd read that before, and Colin makes it sound like they were, I dunno, taking a chance on the new guy they found or something, someone they'd try but wasn't all that sure about, you know? But if you listen to Mark Leveson and Dan Patterson, he was one of the funniest people they'd ever seen onstage, and THAT'S why they gave him all those chances - because THEY KNEW HE WAS AWESOME.
Again - a great mixture of fascinating and adorable.
Day 27: Best Newsflash Backdrop
This would be hard if it wasn't so easy.
It's tied up between the Colin Newsflash (which I believe I've spoken of before) and the Ryan Newsflash.
Colin's because it's Colin. And the bald jokes. And the badly timed bald jokes. It's awesome.
And Ryan's because Ryan can actually see all the stuff he's doing and he's wincing at himself from embarassment and when Colin figures it out..... ah. Good stuff.
Peace out, Whosebuddies,
MeganH
P.S "It all started with a badly timed bald joke!" It just NEVER gets old!!!!! xD
Day 23: Best Carol Channing Impersonation
Uhm..... really? I mean, they were all awesome, how can I really choose?
I'm going to go with the ones that stick with me (it's tied up).
Number one: In Scenes From a Hat, the thing was "if celebrities were the first people on the moon" or something along those lines. So Ryan goes up and, in his Carol Channing voice, says: "Well, this place is as dry and barren as I am!"
Never fails to make me smile.
Number two would be during Questionable Impressions (the scene was was supposed to be at a police department).
Ryan: (doing Jerry Lewis) Can you tell me where someone might report a crime in the VOYDEN GYLEHN? Brad: (doing Yogi Bear) Are you Carol Channing? Ryan: *pauses* (doing Carol Channing) Would you like me to be Carol Channing?
So yeah.
Back from Timberline! Not my best Timberline year, but when we laughed we laughed a lot. MAN.
Anyways,
Day 19: Favourite Greatest Hits
The first one that comes to mind is Songs of Horror.
It's just got that classic Ryan & Colin banter - you know what I'm talking about! Colin putting Ryan in his place, Ryan laughing almost uncontrollably (though not as bad in this one as in the Arctic Tern, or Tapioca) and Ryan.... well, being Ryan. Come on. And the songs that Wayne and Chip improvise are pretty good too.
But my absolute favourite is probably Songs of the Motorcycle.
First and foremost, this contains Colin's infamous Animal Porn moment, which in itself is just hysterical. Also, the songs that Jeff and Wayne do in this are pretty amazing. It's just an all around great playing of this game.
But while I'm doing this, I'd like to give a shout out to Songs of the Hitman and Songs of Women.
Songs of the Hitman because the songs they do are actually really great - I mean they do it really really well! And Songs of Women because, well, I just love the banter in that one. My personal opinion of course.
But Songs of the Motorcycle is totally my favourite.
Okay. Yeah. There you go.
Peace out Whosebuddies,
MeganH
P.S Bend a car? Pat Benatar!!! ..... it just never loses it's magic.
Do you even need to ask? Ryan and Colin, all the way. Come on. That's a no brainer. And now, if I may, I shall rant. Because I have so been WAITING to rant on this one.
Let me start from the beginning of their story:
Imagine this: a young Colin Mochrie. I mean, twenties young. Like, he has hair even. That young. He's gone to theatre school and is now doing improv in Vancouver.
At the same time, Ryan Stiles (who was still a goofy bastard, as someone so aptly put it) is doing stand-up in Vancouver. They meet and Ryan begins to do improv.
Kablamo. Instant amazingness. They become friends and do improv together, and everything they do just seems to work.
Ryan moves to Ontario to join the Second City troupe. They recognize his talent and he's moved to the main stage. As this happens, Ryan invites an old friend by the name of Colin Mochrie to join him at the Second City.
Well, Colin auditions for the Second City. The judge is a woman by the name of Debra McGrath, and she recognizes his talent at improv. It's between Colin and "the cute guy". She chooses Colin (she and Colin later fall in love, get married and have a son).
Ryan auditions for a show called Whose Line is it Anyway, sometime in the late eighties (this was of course when it was still in Britain, before it migrated over to the U.S). He makes the cut and begins doing the show. Again, he invites Colin to join. Colin and some other folks from the Second City troupe audition, but since they were acting as good improvisers trying to make the other guy look good, none of them stand out, and none of them make the cut. Later, when Colin is in the U.S, he auditions again. He didn't know anyone else auditioning and focused on making himself stand out and he makes the cut this time. He and Ryan are re-united on the stage of Whose Line.
Dan Patterson recognized immediately that Ryan and Colin had a fantastic partnership when it came to improv - everything they did together was hilarious. So, naturally, they were put together a lot.
Whose Line migrates to the U.S. People watch it and love it. Ryan and Colin become some of the world's best-known improvisers.
It's with this background that you need to understand the extent of Ryan and Colin's friendship.
They were in their forties when they were doing U.S Whose Line. They met when they were both in their twenties. As Colin has said, Ryan gave Colin a career in improv, a wife...... you can see how they might be, well, the best of friends anyone could possibly be.
They. Are. So. Frickin'. CUTE!!!!!!! ~
I mean, seriously. The way they make fun of each other all the time, yet stick up for each other if anyone else makes fun of them. The way they can quite comfortably kiss and not think anything of it. The way they have a frickin' telepathy. My god, it's so frickin' adorable. I love these guys. At the risk of sounding like a shipper girl, THEY ARE SO CUTE TOGETHER!!!!!!!!!!!
But let's be clear.
I do not think they are gay for each other. They both have wives - Ryan has two boys and a girl, Colin has a son - and why must a completely adorable bromance be turned gay? IT'S NOT GAY. IT'S BROMANCE.
And it's the cutest bromance you will ever see.
Oh my frickin' god.
So. Frickin'. Cute.
In Colin's defense, Ryan had spent an entire game of Let's Make a Date attempting to lick Colin's head.
"Oh, who am I kidding?!"
Ryan's reaction to the above kiss (took him a bit off guard).
Oh how they laugh.
So close!
I dare you to tell me that this isn't cute.
Ryan is a wolf, nursing. Don't get the wrong idea.
STOP TEASING US!!!!!
I love these guys.
Always helping each other out.
Go on. Say that isn't cute. I FRICKIN' DARE YOU.
Love Colin's expression. xD
THIS SCREENSHOT IS SO ADORABLE!!!!!!!
......What can you even say?
The famous Ry/Col telepathy.
Ryan, sticking up for Colin here. "A glimpse into the dreams of Colin Mochrie."
"Theme from Titanic."
Their first kiss!
"Things that would make Drew Carey do a spit take."
First this happened.
Then this happened.
..... and then this happened. xD
The war continues. Ryan (in Two-Line Vocabulary): What do I look like? Colin: I'll tell you what you look like! A big stick with a big nose! *LATER* Ryan: By the way, when I said rug, I meant like a RUG, not like a wig. Colin's retort shown above.
Colin and Ryan making up. Ryan: Happy hundredth mission! I got you a present. Colin: Oh, I got you one too. Ryan: Open yours first. Colin: Aww..... *puts on imaginary wig*
Ryan: Ohh! *puts on hat over his nose*
Colin: Maybe I can melt the snow! Ryan: I'm sure glad you thought of that before I did! Colin: Me too!
Ryan: Hey! I've got a stick-like body! Ski on me! Colin: Alright. *a moment later* FOR GOD'S SAKE! LIFT YOUR HEAD UP! YOUR NOSE IS SLOWING US DOWN!
Colin: Do you look like you've been hit by a bus three times? Ryan: *points*
Colin: You started.
Without a doubt the sweetest most adorable most ohmahgawd moment in Whose Line history.
Okay. These are all the examples from my screenshot collection.
And now, if I may, a cute fan video that works well with Ryan and Colin (I'm addicted to fanvids right now. Just not the real slash ones, those are not right).
Peace out, Whosebuddies,
MeganH
P.S Yes, I am a fangirl. Get over it. You know it's adorable, don't even try to deny it.
Drew makes jokes? Hah, I dunno, Drew's never really made me laugh really..... but, well, let's see here....
Not sure if this counts as a joke, but it's a comeback and that's what I'll use.
*After a game of Whose Line, ending with Colin reading the line "Seeing you naked changed my life".*
Drew: You know, seeing Ryan naked changed my life too, not sure how it changed yours.... so a thousand points to everyone who's seen Ryan naked.
Wayne: *raises his hand*
Brad: *raises his hand*
Drew: That's like everyone in America.........
Ryan: *pretending to count the people in the audience*
Drew: You know, a lot of people forget that on the Drew Carey Show, Ryan and I have been totally naked.
Ryan: Of course, some of us needed a wide angle lens.
Drew: And some of us needed a zoom.
And then Ryan pretends to mark the one point Drew has ever gotten on him.
That's the best Drew joke that comes to mind.
Peace out Whosebuddies,
MeganH
P.S This exchange disturbed one of my friends when she read it. Don't worry, The Drew Carey Show is a pretty G-rated show. There wasn't any full-frontal nudity.
And even if there was, the camera barely ever panned to Ryan anyways in that particular scene.
Brad: "Well, I can't stop staring at your breasts!"
Ryan: "I smell like condiments........ Relish! Mustard! Ketchup and cheese!"
Ryan: "If we do another hoedown, I'll slit my f*cking wrists!"
Ryan: "This is what I have to do to please the f*cking brit!"
Ryan: "Everytime I do they seem to f*ck me up the ass!"
Plenty of swearing on Ryan's part.
Ryan: "That's a weird f*cking looking thing, isn't it?"
Ryan: "That spider's f*cked up, man!"
.....lots of swearing on Ryan's part.
Ryan: "Well, f*ck you then, I will, you know......"
OKAY WE GET THE POINT, RYAN SWEARS A LOT.
Favourite blooper...... favourite blooper......... Colin in Dead Bodies comes to mind....... everytime Ryan and Colin almost kiss, that comes to mind....... hmmm..........
My favourite...... this is strange because this isn't a blooper that sticks out in people's minds generally, but it never fails to make me laugh.
They were attempting a hoedown.
Brad: I was feeling frisky, I went for a drive, I took all my handguns and I shot myself alive, I..... *lays down on the ground from his epic fail*
Wayne: I consider myself quite a fugal frella, and - *Brad bursts out laughing at Wayne's fail* Shut up!
I think it was supposed to be a hoedown about banks or something of the like.
But Brad...... I just love him to pieces. Man. Another great Brad blooper hoedown would be:
Brad: I went to an awful restaurant, they had to use these towels, And all the food was awful, tasted like something from your bowels, I had to leave so right away, cause it didn't really matter, What was I thinking, ordering the poopoo platter?
And everyone except Brad knew that that would be unairable.
Anyways..... the bank hoedown messups are my favourite. Video:
.......My favourite scene? Out of the whole show? REALLY? How... is that..... even...... POSSIBLE to say?!
I'll do my best.
So many to choose from, I'm not sure I can do this one........
Film, TV and Theatre Styles where Colin and Ryan are arguing over Ryan's pit bull?
Whose Line where Colin is the lone ranger and Ryan is Tonto?
Whose Line where Colin is Sampson and Ryan is Delilah?
........ pretty much every game of Whose Line was one of my favourite scenes.
And every game of Narrate, too.
Wow this is hard.
Well, I know what USED to be my favourite scene. The Narrate where they're at a lingerie store, and Colin was searching for The Golden Bra. That used to be my ultimate favourite Whose Line scene ever.
But now, just because of how much more Whose Line I've seen since then, it's just not anymore.
The car repair shop Narrate comes to mind.
So does the Number of Words with Jeff, where he was some kind of explorer or archaeologist or something, and Colin was his feisty female companion.
Ultimate favourite scene....... I need to think hard about that one.
You know, there's just too many favourites to just pick one. It's impossible. But I'll go with a classic, and it definitely is something that never fails to make me laugh.
The Cat.
Any Whoser out there knows exactly what I'm talking about.
Um............. *laughs* None? I mean, maybe the weight thing, just to have those headphones that play neverending Hoedowns, but, I mean, really...........?
I mean, come on. Look at what they do.
Does any of that look particularly great to YOU? This whole idea of actually buying one of these things is really making me laugh.
So I'll just go with the hoedown headphones, because really, who in their right mind would buy ANY of this stuff?
Man, so many to choose from! Mostly looking back at times Colin has made Ryan crack up, cause when Ryan breaks up, you KNOW it's funny.
But my favourite is definitely a classic: TAPIOOOOOOOCA!
That, of course, would be Ryan's break in character. Colin stays as composed as ever.
Now, first of all, this is the first clip I ever saw where someone actually totally broke up during a game. So that right there makes it special for me.
But what I think makes it really priceless is the fact that Ryan pulls it off as cheesy infomercial laughter at first.
"Hahaha....... noooo, Colin......" *informercial laughter* "I'm talking about Cu - " and before he can even finish the word he just loses it. Like he has to turn away from the camera in order to get ahold of himself. And Colin sits there, completely composed, giving him one of those classic Colin "What are you laughing at?" looks. He shrugs at the camera. And Ryan comes back and tries again. "I'm talking about Cuba, Col - " And he loses it again.
Colin tries to help him out. "Cuba. It's a small island."
Ryan tries to go on. "It is." *cracks up again* I love the look Colin is giving him here at this moment, like "Did I just break you up this much?" Ryan comes back just enough to say this, his voice strained with restrained laughter: "Why don't you tell the people about it?" And he cracks up again.
And the best part is that Wayne used the tapioca thing in his songs whenever he could after that, and when Ryan made the ska joke, Colin just brings the tapioca up again, just to rub his nose in it. It's hilarious.
Now that I think about it, besides "THE CAT!" I've never seen Ryan break up that much. He laughs at some things a little bit, but never THAT much. That's probably why it's my favourite.
Well that's very difficult for me to answer, since I don't actually know what the actual people they're impressioning sounds like.........
Alright, after a little bit of research, listening to some of the more common impressions they do (John Wayne (Ryan), Peter Graves (Colin), Bill Cosby (Wayne)), I've gotta say that the best one is definitely Ryan's Carol Channing. It's uncanny how much he sounds like her. I looked at a video where Carol Channing was talking and my first thought: Holy crap. My god, he's just spot on, man. It's unbelievable.
Of course that's closely followed by Greg's Daffy Duck. That one is pretty amazing too.
But Ryan's Carol Channing is frackin' unbelievable.
This video's kinda long, but it shows all his Carol Channing - and the infamous Carol Channing Incident, I might add. Even if you don't know what that is..... believe me, you'll know it when you see it.
And compare that to just this video of the ACTUAL Carol Channing talking............ (you don't have to watch the whole thing)
It really is uncanny, isn't it?
But, here's the thing; the BEST impression is not the same as my FAVOURITE impression.
And that is probably between Jeff's Christopher Walken, Chip's Snagglepuss, Wayne's Bill Cosby, Colin's Humphrey Bogart, or Colin's Craig T. Nelson.
And after thinking long and hard about that, I must say that my favourite out of those is probably:
Colin's Humphrey Bogart.
If you wanna see it, just look up Questionable Impressions. He does it in almost every one. You won't be able to tell, of course, until he says something about a "hill o' beans". It's awful. And awesome.
Aw man that's really hard. The first one that comes to mind is the Carol Channing incident, but that's really not my favourite. Just the most memorable.
Some others that come to mind are Chip mixing up the words wrestler and professor.
Or Chip leaping onto Colin's foot.
Or Chip leaping onto Ryan's back (wow, Chip really screws up a lot).
Or the time Ryan couldn't get his words out in a game of Narrate.
Ryan: But what he didn't was - know was - or was no........... was that I was dyslexic.
And later:
Drew: Each a thousand you points for.
Ryan: That made sense to me!
Or Brad saying "Nothing like a two hundred pound snatch if you know what I mean," in a game of If You Know What I Mean.
Or Colin's Nice Pants.
Or Colin's "Really? That sucks."
Or Wayne in Questions Only going up and saying "Ecuador."
Or Kathy actually ripping out some of Colin's chest hair.
Or Wayne in Greatest Hits, Songs of Marriage singing as the Backstreet Boys "I'm going to find myself a guy!"
Or the Animal Porn incident.
Or Ryan (who actually has a wide enough range of half decent impressions) going up in Questionable Impressions and sort of faking one.
Drew: Who was that, by the way?
Ryan: I don't know.....
Or, you know, every single one of Colin's impressions.
Or Colin in Multiple Personalities getting all the props and attempting to do a mixture of Braveheart, Jimmy Stewart and Carol Channing (which apparently equals some kind of duck monkey).
Or Colin's "Joe had a nice bone."
Or the Wrong Name in Bed Irish Drinking Song:
Wayne: One night I was getting freaky.
Drew: *garbles his words* With my largarlelane.
Colin: Boy we had some fun!
Ryan: Lalahrouaroua.
Wayne: *cracks up laughing*
Drew: *cracks up laughing*
Colin: Meow!
Or the Three Headed Broadway Star where Drew's in it and messes up bigtime.
Drew: And take me on a.......! Oh wait, one word.
Ryan: Trip so beautiful!
Wayne: I love you!
Or David Hasselhoff's Three Headed Broadway Star. Gawd, that was painful.
Or Ryan always calling Colin Charlie when he was supposed to be Bosley.
Ryan: What do we do, Charlie?
Colin: I'M BOSLEY!!!!!!!!!
Oh, good memories.
Now, my FAVOURITE slip-up from the US Whose Line is definitely Colin spilling coffee on himself.
They were playing Helping Hands (Colin stands behind Ryan, Ryan has his hands behind his back and Colin is his hands) and the producers had decided it was a good idea to put hot coffee in a scene where one of them can't see what they're doing.
So as Colin's pouring the coffee, he spills it on his hand.
So he drops the coffee cup and coffee spills all over the floor.
No one knew at the time that it was actually hot, but Colin certainly knew the minute it hit his hand.
If you pay close attention, you see Colin's eyes close in pain and you can hear a tiny squeaking sound - which, in the conversation after the game, Colin says is him screaming into Ryan's back.
So Kathy, being at the side and probably able to see Colin, realizes that Colin is in pain and goes to pour cold orange juice on his hand to help.
But Ryan is acting like he is the one in pain, because Colin's hands are supposed to be his, and he's yelling, and Colin, heroically playing along (or not playing at all) is spasming his hands around to demonstrate it. Unable to see Kathy with the orange juice, his spasming knocks it out of her hand, and the glass pitcher full of orange juice falls to the ground and shatters.
It was chaos.
Beautiful, Whose Line-ic chaos.
But my ultimate favourite Whose Line slip-up is actually from the UK version.
They were doing a hoedown about their worst nightmare. It was Ryan's turn. And as I can't accurately describe it without hearing his voice, I'll just give you the video.
That's gotta be one of my favourite Hoedowns, right beside the Colin Mochrie Hoedown - both of which, now that I think of it, are from the UK version.
Back in the younger days of Whose Line fandom. When a kiss, a grope and a licked ear were outrageous. Kinda silly now, isn't it? A sucked nipple wasn't even on my mind, much less the letter H.
Ah, the youth of fandom.
Not that I'm not proud of the effort that went into that. I was young, but I was devoted.
ANOTHER obsession, you say? Yes. Yes indeed. It is called Whose Line Is It Anyway.
Now, I would HOPE that most of you would know what this is, but as it was cancelled quite a while ago and has been mostly forgotten (then again, they said Earth was "Mostly harmless") I will explain the concept of the show - hopefully without too much ranting. But hey, if I rant, so what. It's my frackin' blog.
The concept of the show is that it is all improv. None of the show is scripted. They do a bunch of improv games based off suggestions from the audience or cards that the producer/director/writer guy gives the host (Drew Carey). And as improv is as a rule, hysterical, it's brilliant. Since the show is formatted as a game show, the host gives one or two or all of the performers some meaningless points at the end of each game (the points don't matter) and then randomly chooses a "winner" at the end of the show. Although I wouldn't say randomly. I don't think it's quite coincidence that Colin and Ryan barely EVER win - as far as I can tell, Colin only wins when they're playing Props at the end, and even then he usually won't win. As for Ryan.... I'm almost certain he only won once and sat out of a hoedown. And, considering how many bloopers there are of Ryan at the desk, I'm not surprised he only won once.
Now usually my obsessions are at least one of two things: 1) weird, random, hard to understand and totally obscure, 2) Way out of date. The exception to these rules being the Simpsons.
And Whose Line is sort of an exception. It also sort of totally conforms to these rules, depending on how you look at it.
1) weird, random, hard to understand, totally obscure -- it is weird. It is very random. Hard to understand though? Not really. It's improv. You don't really need to understand any of it, because half the time, they don't know what the hell they're saying. Obscure? I suppose. Now it is, anyhow. But is the humour obscure? Hardly. And that's what the show's all about, you know. The humour.
2) I suppose it's a little out of date now, seeing as it went from 1998-2005 or thereabouts. But not out of date in the sense that the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was out of date. The jokes are still relevant. The humour's still relevant. You can barely tell that it was made so many years ago, just watching the show.
Now that's totally just me being defensive about liking the show, but why DO I like the show?
Because it makes me laugh. And when I'm in one of my lonely, sorry-for-myself depressive state of minds, that's very hard to do. "It's just a feel-good show" as Ryan Stiles once described it. When you see the performers burst out laughing right there on stage, it can be accurately called contagious.
The people they have on this show are GREAT. FANTASTIC. Colin Mochrie, Ryan Stiles - they are true masters of improv. Wayne Brady - he is the absolute master of improvising SONGS. And all their guest stars - Greg Proops, Brad Sherwood, Chip Esten (ahhh, Chip), Kathy Greenwood, Jeff Davis - are all great in their own right. And of course, the host, Drew Carey - the show just wouldn't be complete without his laughter and ribbing. No it would not.

I really am ranting now, for sure, but I've got no one else to rant to and sometimes a girl's just gotta rant. Alright? Good, cause I ain't gonna stop.
The thing is, half the humour isn't even in the scenes (although the scenes are ridiculously funny) - half the humour is just in the friendships the people have with each other. And it's OBVIOUS they are friends. Colin and Ryan had been doing improv with each other for who knows how long before Whose Line, and they have the best non-gay bromance in the history of the world. They can make fun of each other all the time (which is hilarious) and be fine because that's just what good friends they are.
Ryan: "Do you look like you've been hit by a bus three times?"
Colin: "You started."
Because Ryan is "a big stick with a big nose".
And Ryan worked with Drew Carey on the Drew Carey Show, so they're friends. Just the friendships are what make the show what it is. Colin putting up with all the bald jokes and the canadian jokes, Ryan putting up with being the "tall freak", the "big stick with a big nose", having to put up with everyone making fun of his terrible shoes. Drew putting up with the fat jokes, and "not doing a damn thing". There's so much laughter and fun on this show it's kind of impossible not to laugh.
Colin after Drew said an unexpected bald joke.
Colin after Drew got booed for saying a bald joke. And that's how Drew learned "don't make fun of the popular funny guy."
There will be plenty of other Whose Line related rants, I can assure you. But speaking of Whose Line as a whole, I've pretty much summed it up. If you don't already know what Whose Line is, check it out. You will laugh, I can guarantee that. If you don't, then you have no sense of humour. Kay, I can't say that. But seriously. If you don't then I will be very very very very very very very very surprised.
That's all for now. Have fun getting the past few minutes of your life back. Now, let's find some Whose Line I haven't seen.................
